The Origins
I was born in Southern California in the early 70's. Being from a Latin American family (Mexican & Honduran), I only spoke Spanish. I actually had a really heavy accent as a kid. Thanks to my older brother Terry, I learned English.
I played drums as a kid & early teens. Believe it or not, I played a 13-piece white Tama set with timbáles, 2 cow bells & chimes! My brother plays bass.

The Teen Years
In elementary & junior high school, I played the clarinet. It was one of those pass-down instruments (my brother got tired of it, so it got passed-down to me). But in high school, my senior year, I got into choir and drama. I got the lead in the play "Once Upon A Mattress", which is a fun adaptation of the Princess & the Pea story.
After high school, I went to study music at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA. Here, I was introduced to the world of Opera. After a couple years there, I auditioned & got into the University of Southern California Thorton School of Music, where I studied vocal arts (opera) for three years.
During these years, I really developed my piano playing & composition skills and wrote a lot of music. Some good, some not so good. I loved listening to world music and exploring the different rhythms & music scales. It's been a great musical influence.

USC - Music for the Soul
In 1993, I auditioned and was accepted to the University of Southern California, Thorton School of Music. I crafted my voice to be an opera singer, and studied a number of musical-related subjects like music history, composition, choral conducting, music theory, vocal pedagogy, and much more. I walked in the graduation ceremony in 1996 (and eventually completed the degree in 2000) with a Bachelor of Music, Vocal Arts.
A Master At Planning
After alot of soul searching, my life took a turn . . . for the better. One of those turns happened when my efforts working with first-generation American, low-income, & at-risk youth was noticed. I worked for an amazing program called EOPS. Long story short, a wonderful woman named Dr. Marcia Feld was impressed with my efforts and offered me a full scholarship to the University of Rhode Island's City Planning Program. I took the offer and I worked incredibly hard to earn my Master in Community Planning, with an emphasis in Urban Design. I lived in Providence, RI and absolutely loved it! The architecture is amazing, but more importantly, the Jewish community there is incredibly special.
A Brief Stint in Politics
Lakewood Township Committee (2007).
After graduating in 2000, I moved to Lakewood, NJ, where not only I found a great job as a City Planner, I also found myself living in one of the most densest Jewish communities in America. I became friends with some really spectacular people while living there, who continue to be my great friends!
After being a Transportation Planner and a Senior City Planner for two different Planning Boards, I went to work as the Confidential Aide to the Mayor of Lakewood. I continue to be amazed at the askanim (Jewish leaders) there, and the (literally) round-the-clock work they do for the residents. I was at this position for two years.

Keep Moving North
In 2008, I moved to Monsey, NY. It's another wonderful, large Jewish community, where there are spectacular parks and where autumn produces vivid colors. I have truly found some incredible people here and am very grateful to Hashem for bringing me here.
What's Happening Now
I currently live in Passaic, NJ with my two teenage sons. After a 3 years hiatus, I have returned to speaking and singing. I am currently working with a studio in NY to complete my CD.
At these fundraising presentations (for women only*), I talk about leaving my music career behind to become a giyores, I sing a few songs throughout the presentation, show a slide show and a video about my sons, and have a question and answer session at the end.
